# How do I see what a sound is made of?

> The editor toolbar switches the display between Waveform, Spectrogram, and Spectrum — loudness over time, frequencies over time, and the overall tonal balance.

> **Tip:** A sound that feels harsh usually has too much energy high up; one that feels muddy has too much low down. The spectrum view shows you which, so your EQ move is not a guess.

## Steps

1. Open a sound in the Create tab’s Edit view.
2. Use the view buttons above the display to switch between Waveform, Spectrogram, and Spectrum.
3. Waveform shows level over time — it is the view for trimming and selecting.
4. Spectrogram shows which frequencies happen when, so you can see a click, a tail, or a resonance.
5. Spectrum shows the overall tonal balance, with a brightness marker so you can compare it against another sound.
