# What does the Motion tab do?

> It is the sound layer for your Figma Motion animations. Select an animated layer and the Motion tab shows its real timing and easing, suggests sounds, and exports a handoff that names the exact animation.

> **Note:** Motion data is read from Figma’s Beta Motion API. If a layer you know is animated shows nothing, reload the plugin and reselect it.

> **Tip:** Prototype interactions count too. A layer with a smart-animate transition gives Sound Kit timing and easing even without a Motion timeline.

## Steps

1. Open the Motion tab, or press Cmd + 5.
2. Select an animated layer on the Figma canvas.
3. The inspector shows what Sound Kit can read: duration, keyframes, easing, and the trigger.
4. Preview a sound against the animation, and pick from the suggestions underneath.
5. Open it in the editor to save it — the animation’s timing and curve are carried across for you.
6. Use Developer handoff to export a token that names the exact Motion timeline and curve.
