# How do I layer several sounds into one?

> Use the Mix tab in Create. Add up to four tracks, slide each one to where it should start, balance them, then export the result as a single sound.

> **Tip:** Layering is how most interface sounds are built: a short click for the impact, a soft tail underneath it for the body.

> **Note:** The mix meter shows the loudness of the whole thing, not of one track — watch it as you add layers so the result does not creep up in level.

## Steps

1. Open the Create tab and switch to Mix.
2. Click Add Track and load a sound into it. You can have up to four.
3. Drag a track along the timeline to change when it starts relative to the others.
4. Set each track’s volume and pan, and use mute and solo to hear parts on their own.
5. Use the transport buttons to play, stop, and jump back to the start.
6. Watch the master loudness reading as you balance the layers.
7. Click Export Mix to render everything down to one sound.
