# How do I tell whether my processing actually helped?

> Use the A/B button on a track. It plays the original against the processed version at matched loudness, so you judge the tone instead of whichever one is louder.

> **Note:** Louder almost always sounds better. Matching the levels first is the only way to hear what the processing really did.

> **Tip:** The amount of level compensation applied is printed under the switch, so you always know the comparison was adjusted rather than doctored.

## Steps

1. Open the Create tab, switch to Mix, and add effects to a track.
2. Click the A/B button on that track.
3. Flip between the original and processed sides while it plays.
4. Check the compensation note under the switch to see how much level was matched out.
5. Keep the processing if it wins on tone, and revert the track if it does not.
