# What does Sound Kit check when I upload a sound?

> The upload window can trim leading silence, normalize, and repair clicks, and it warns you about near-duplicates and sounds loud enough to startle. Every change is off until you turn it on.

> **Note:** Every option that changes your audio is off by default and works on a copy. Your original file is never modified in place.

> **Tip:** The Repair chip only appears on files that would measurably benefit, so an empty chip row means nothing needs fixing.

## Steps

1. Open the Create tab, pick Upload, and drag your files in.
2. Turn on Trim leading silence if your files start with dead air.
3. Turn on Repair (declick + DC offset) for recordings with clicks at the edges or an off-centre waveform.
4. Turn on Check for duplicates to compare each file against the others in the batch and against your recent library.
5. Read the badges on each file: a near-duplicate hint, a repair suggestion, and a warning when a file peaks hot enough to startle or clip.
6. These warnings are advisory — you can upload anyway. Fix or drop the files you want, then commit the upload.
