# How do I hear my sounds in a prototype?

> You can only hear a sound that lives on a video node. Make a playable node, then click Present on desktop.

## Before you start

- A node that actually plays sound. Just tagging a sound onto a plain layer (Attach to layer) is silent, so it will never play in a prototype — you need a video node.

> **Careful:** A silent tag does not play. If you only chose "Attach to {layer name}", the layer keeps its design but stays silent. To hear it, use "Create a new video node" instead.

> **Note:** You hear sounds in Present (prototype) mode on desktop, not while editing the canvas. Sounds do not play in the Figma mobile app.

> **Paid feature:** Creating a playable video node needs a paid Figma plan (Professional, Organization, Education, or Enterprise). Presenting a node someone already made is free.

## Steps

1. Make sure your sound is on a video node. In the Browse tab, select a sound, click Add to Canvas, and choose "Create a new video node". See "How do I add my first sound to a screen?" if you have not done this yet.
2. Click the Present button (the play icon) in the Figma toolbar.
3. Play through your prototype on a desktop browser or the desktop app. The sound plays when its video node appears.
4. Hear nothing? Select the video node in Figma, open the Prototype tab, and turn on the video Sound toggle. (Autoplay and Loop live there too.)
