# How do I compare a few sounds side by side?

> Turn on comparison mode in Browse, tick up to four sounds, then flip between them with keys 1 to 4.

> **Tip:** The compare tray only slides up once two or more sounds are loaded. With just one ticked, there is nothing to compare yet.

## Steps

1. Open the Browse tab. In the toolbar (next to the filter button), click the Compare sounds button to turn on comparison mode.
2. A small checkbox now appears on each sound in the list. Tick a sound to add it to the compare tray.
3. Tick up to four sounds the same way. Once two are loaded, the compare tray slides up from the bottom with slots A, B, C, and D.
4. Press 1, 2, 3, or 4 to switch between the sounds instantly. Press Space to play or pause. You can also click a slot to switch to it.
5. Turn on Compare spectra in the tray to overlay any two slots and see which is brighter, instead of guessing by ear.
6. Click Family fit in the tray to check whether the sounds you have shortlisted actually belong together.
7. Found a loser? Click the X on its slot to drop it. Click Clear to empty the tray and start over.
8. Once you have a favorite, select the layer on the canvas, then use Add to Canvas on that sound back in the list.
