# How do I add my first sound to a screen?

> Pick a sound in Browse and click Add to Canvas. To get a sound you can actually hear in Present, choose Create a new video node.

## Before you start

- A paid Figma plan, so the sound can play (see Do I need a paid plan to add sound?).

> **Paid feature:** A sound you can actually hear needs a paid Figma plan (Professional, Organization, Education, or Enterprise). Sound Kit plays sound through a video, and Figma only lets you upload video on a paid plan. On the free Starter plan you can still browse, preview, and edit, and you can play sounds someone already added — but you cannot create a new playable one.

> **Careful:** There are two choices in the Add to canvas dialog. "Attach to your layer" just tags the layer — it stays silent and makes no sound in Present. To actually hear the sound, choose "Create a new video node".

## Steps

1. In Sound Kit, open the Browse tab.
2. Find a sound you like and press play to hear a preview.
3. Click Add to Canvas on that sound.
4. In the Add to canvas dialog, choose Create a new video node. This drops a new, playable node on your Figma canvas — the only kind of node that makes sound.
5. On the Figma canvas, drag the new node where you want it, then size and position it like any other layer.
6. Click Present in Figma, play the screen, and you will hear your sound. (Sound plays in Present on desktop only — not while editing and not in the Figma mobile app.)
