# How do I slow into corners and speed up on straights?

> Shape a speed graph along the path — same shape, warped timing — or auto-ease at corners.

By default a layer moves at a **constant speed** along the path. The **Speed** section lets you vary that speed — slow in, hold on a corner, sprint down a straight — without moving the path. It redistributes keyframe **times** while the sampled positions stay exact, so the shape is untouched and only the pacing changes. Native Motion has no equivalent for path motion.

_The Speed section — drag the velocity graph, or let Ease at corners build it from the path._

1. Turn on **Vary speed** to reveal the velocity graph. The horizontal axis is position along the path (0→1); the height is relative speed (the dashed line is the constant-speed baseline).
2. Drag the points up (faster) or down (slower). **Click** the graph to add a point, **double-click** a point to remove it.
3. Or start from a preset — **Constant**, **Slow start**, **Slow end**, **Slow middle**, **Fast middle** — then fine-tune.
4. **Ease at corners** is a hands-off alternative: it detects the path’s corners on Apply and automatically slows into each turn and speeds up on the straights.

> **Note:** A speed profile **supersedes the easing curve’s timing** (both warp the same arc→time mapping). Ping-pong and reverse legs mirror the profile in time, so the layer slows at the same corner in both directions.
