# How do I choose which layer is the path vs. the object?

> Use Set as path / Set as object to pin them explicitly.

By default the first selected vector is the path and every other selected layer is a target. To override that, select a layer and use the pickers:

_Set as path, Set as object, and Load from selection buttons._

1. Select the layer you want as the path and click **Set as path**.
2. Select the layer(s) you want to move and click **Set as object**.

These pin explicit layers for the session, so you can pick the path and the animated layers independently of selection order.
