# How do I scatter copies into an organic swarm?

> One seed deterministically jitters each object’s start time, offset, size and speed so identical layers read as an organic swarm.

The **Randomize** section deterministically jitters every animated copy across four dimensions — **start time, perpendicular offset, size and speed** — from one **seed** scaled by an **amount**. The same seed reproduces the same arrangement; nudge it to reshuffle. It breaks lock-step so N identical layers read as confetti, falling snow, fireflies, or a school of fish.

_One seed scatters the riders’ timing, offset, size and speed._

1. Select **several layers** (a swarm needs more than one) inside a frame.
2. Turn on **Randomize** and pick which dimensions to scatter — time, offset, size, speed.
3. Adjust **Amount** for how wild it gets, and change the **Seed** to reshuffle.

> **Note:** It composes with **Distribute**, **Stagger** and **Trail**: those give the swarm its structure, this breaks the uniformity. It’s inert on a single object.
