# How do I animate a layer along a path?

> Pick a path and a layer, then Apply — the plugin writes native Motion keyframes.

Motion Path moves one or more layers **along a vector path** by writing native Figma Motion keyframe tracks. The result is real, editable Motion keyframes — they inspect in Dev Mode and export to CSS / React / JSON like any other Figma Motion animation.

1. Draw a **vector** (a line or pen path) — this becomes the path.
2. Select that vector **and** the layer(s) you want to animate. Make sure the layers sit inside a frame so they have a Motion timeline.
3. Open the plugin, set your options on the **Path** tab, and click **Apply motion path**.

_The Path tab — choose a source, confirm the path and layers, then Apply._

The first selected vector is treated as the path; every other selected layer is animated along it. Keyframes are spaced evenly by arc length (constant speed), with one landing on every corner of the path.

> **Note:** No path drawn? Switch **From** to **Procedural** to generate a circle, wave, or spiral — no vector needed.
