# How do I use sample data and shuffle it?

> The Sample Data sub-tab holds ready-made datasets for the chart you are on, and the shuffle button in the tab bar re-rolls the numbers without touching your labels.

> **Tip:** Shuffle keeps your labels and series names and re-rolls only the values, staying near the range you already have. It is the fastest way to check that a layout survives numbers other than the ones you designed it around.

> **Note:** The generators are deterministic — the same card gives the same figures every time. If you want variety, apply one and then shuffle.

> **Careful:** Applying a sample dataset overwrites whatever is in the table. Use Undo in the data toolbar, or ⌘Z, if you did not mean to.

## Steps

1. Open the Data tab and switch to Sample Data. Everything listed there already fits the chart you have open.
2. Start with Generate Data if you want a believable shape rather than specific figures — cards such as Monthly Sales, Quarterly Revenue, Weekly Traffic and Seasonal Trend build data with real seasonality and trend in it.
3. Use Templates below that for the awkward chart types. They are hand-built structures — an organisation chart for a tree, an energy flow for a Sankey, a week-by-hour grid for a heatmap.
4. Or pick from Sample Datasets, twenty-five general-purpose sets covering business, financial, analytics and scientific figures. Each card shows how many rows and series it carries, and the heading counts how many suit the chart you are on.
5. Picking anything replaces the current numbers and drops you back on Manual Edit so you can start editing.
6. To keep the same structure but see different numbers, press the shuffle button at the right-hand end of the editor tab bar, next to the light and dark toggle. Press it as often as you like.
