# Can I use FigmaCharts from Claude or another agent?

> Yes. FigmaCharts ships an MCP server, so an AI assistant that speaks MCP can create charts, connect data, build dashboards and place the result in your Figma file.

## Before you start

- An MCP-capable client, such as Claude.

> **Note:** This is the only way to build KPI cards — the dashboard skill creates them, and there is no button for them in the plugin.

> **Tip:** Unlike the in-plugin AI features, MCP uses whatever model your client is already running, so there is no separate API key to add here.

## Steps

1. Point your MCP client at the FigmaCharts server. Once connected, the assistant can see what the plugin can do.
2. Ask for what you want in plain language. The tools cover creating charts, recommending a chart type, connecting a data source, generating animations, extracting design tokens from your Figma file, and inserting or updating a chart on the canvas.
3. Four higher-level skills bundle the common jobs: create a chart, recommend a chart type, animate a chart, and build a dashboard.
4. Charts an agent builds are ordinary FigmaCharts charts. Select one on the canvas and the plugin opens it for editing exactly as if you had made it by hand.
