# How do I add a KPI card?

> KPI cards are not built by hand in the plugin — they come with a dashboard. Ask Claude or another agent connected to FigmaCharts for a dashboard, and it draws a row of metric cards above your charts.

## Before you start

- FigmaCharts connected to Claude or another agent as an MCP server.
- The plugin open on the file you want the dashboard in.

> **Note:** A KPI card is an ordinary Figma frame with text in it, not a chart — there is nothing to reopen in the editor. To change a number, edit the text in Figma, or ask the agent for the dashboard again.

> **Tip:** Everything is auto-layout: the cards stretch across the row and the chart grid wraps, so widening the dashboard frame reflows it rather than breaking it.

> **Note:** Values are formatted for you: ask for currency and you get a dollar figure with thousands separators, ask for a percentage and you get the number with a % after it.

## Steps

1. Set FigmaCharts up as an MCP server in your agent, and leave the plugin open in Figma — the agent draws through the running plugin.
2. Describe the dashboard you want, including the numbers you want across the top: the metric name, its value, whether it is money or a percentage, and which way it moved.
3. The agent builds a dashboard frame on the current page. A KPI Row sits at the top, each card an auto-layout frame named after its metric, with the value large, the label under it in grey, and an arrow line showing the change in green, red or grey.
4. The charts land underneath as a wrapping grid of cards. Each chart card is a real FigmaCharts chart, so selecting one and pressing Edit Chart opens it in the editor like any other.
