# How do I put a chart on the canvas?

> Press + SVG in the editor header. The chart lands in the middle of your viewport as a real Figma layer, already selected, and the plugin stays open so you can keep working on it.

## Before you start

- A chart open in the editor, with your data in the Data tab.

> **Note:** The chart is always placed at the top level of the page you are on — it does not drop into a frame you had selected. Drag it into place afterwards; updates will then keep it there.

> **Tip:** The plugin loads the chart's fonts into Figma before it inserts, so labels come through in the font you chose rather than a fallback.

> **Pro feature:** The free plan covers 10 inserts. Reopening a chart that is already on the canvas to change it is part of the paid plan — the editor offers Upgrade to Edit instead of the tabs.

## Steps

1. Get the preview looking the way you want it first. Insert copies exactly what is drawn in the preview, so there is no separate render step to wait for.
2. Press + SVG at the top right of the editor. Press + PNG instead if you want a flat image rather than editable layers.
3. The chart appears in the centre of your viewport, named after the chart, and Figma zooms to it. It is left selected, so Shift 2 brings you back to it at any point.
4. It arrives with its proportions locked, so dragging a corner scales it rather than squashing it. For an exact size, set Width and Height under Appearance in the Configuration tab and insert again.
5. The plugin does not close. The insert buttons become Update SVG and Update PNG, so anything you change from here on updates the chart you just placed instead of adding a second one.
