# How do I edit a chart I already inserted?

> Select the chart on the canvas with the plugin open and it reopens in the editor with your data and settings intact. Press Update SVG when you are done and it replaces the one already on the canvas.

## Before you start

- A chart you inserted earlier with FigmaCharts.

> **Note:** The editor reads the frame's current size off the canvas, so if you resized the chart in Figma, that is the size the plugin shows — not the one you originally inserted at.

> **Careful:** The settings ride along on the frame the plugin created. Flattening or ungrouping it keeps the artwork but loses the settings, and the chart can no longer be reopened. Keep the original frame if you may want to edit it again.

> **Tip:** Updating costs you nothing on the free plan — only brand-new inserts count towards the allowance.

## Steps

1. With the plugin open, click the chart on the canvas. Select that one layer on its own — the plugin only responds to a single selection.
2. It opens in the editor with the same data, colours and options you inserted it with, ready to change.
3. If the plugin is closed, select the chart and press Edit Chart. Figma offers that button for anything FigmaCharts made, and it opens the plugin straight into that chart.
4. Make your changes, then press Update SVG or Update PNG in the header. These replace the insert buttons while you are editing an existing chart, so you get one updated chart rather than a second copy beside it.
5. Tick Auto-update next to those buttons and you can stop pressing them — every change you make goes straight to the canvas.
