# What are chart style presets?

> A chart style is a saved look — gridlines, labels, spacing, typography and sometimes a palette — applied in one click. A colour palette only changes colours; a chart style can change everything.

> **Note:** Some styles carry a palette and some do not. A style without one leaves your current colours alone; a style with one will recolour the chart. Why did my colours change when I picked a style? covers the rule.

> **Tip:** Once a chart looks the way your team wants, save it as your own style so nobody has to rebuild the look by hand.

## Steps

1. Open the Chart style picker in the Appearance group.
2. The universal styles work on any chart type — Minimal, Corporate, Dark, Vibrant, Presentation and Dashboard. Presentation uses larger type for a slide; Dashboard strips the chart back for a tile.
3. Below those, styles built for a specific chart type appear when they apply — a sparkline style for lines, a modern donut for pies, a trendline style for scatter, and so on.
4. Apply one, then keep editing. A style is a starting point, not a lock — every option stays editable afterwards.
