# My chart won't render

> When something in the chart cannot be drawn, the plugin keeps the last version that worked and tells you what failed. Undo the change you just made and the preview comes back.

> **Tip:** Inserting and exporting always use the last configuration that actually rendered, so a broken preview never becomes a broken chart on your canvas.

> **Note:** The same message will not reappear more than once every five seconds. A fault that fires on every keystroke can no longer stack up dialogs and lock you out of the panel.

> **Careful:** Create New Chart takes you back to the gallery and leaves the chart you were editing behind. Press Dismiss instead if you want to keep working on it.

## Steps

1. If a dialog appears, read its What you can do list first — it names the actual problem, and Technical Details holds the raw message if you need to report it.
2. Press Dismiss to carry on. Your chart and everything you have typed are still there — dismissing only closes the message.
3. If instead a small strip reads Preview failed … Showing last valid chart, the setting you changed a moment ago is the cause. Put that one control back and the preview recovers on its own.
4. If the chart went blank straight after a data edit, open the Data tab and press ⌘Z (Ctrl Z) in the table, or press Reset Data to go back to the chart type's own sample numbers.
5. If the Configuration tab shows no option groups at all, its option list failed to load. Close the plugin and open it again — you will be offered your session back.
6. If a chart never draws even before you touch it, open the same category under a different library tab. Each library draws these charts independently, so the equivalent chart elsewhere usually works.
