# My chart vanished or moved after inserting

> A new chart lands in the middle of your viewport and is left selected, so it is almost always on screen already — press Shift 2 in Figma to zoom straight to it.

> **Note:** Updating rebuilds the chart as a new layer: it goes back into the same frame, at the same place in the layer list, at the same position, size, rotation and name, and only then is the old one removed.

> **Careful:** Because the layer is rebuilt, anything you changed on it inside Figma — renamed sublayers, styles applied to its vectors, prototype links — is gone after an update. Do that styling after your last update.

> **Tip:** Tick Auto-update and every change in the editor rewrites the chart on the canvas straight away. Leave it off while you are still experimenting.

## Steps

1. Press Shift 2 in Figma to zoom to the selection. The plugin selects the chart the moment it inserts it, so this finds it even if your canvas had scrolled.
2. Check the layers panel rather than the canvas. A chart moved into a frame smaller than itself is hidden by that frame while Clip content is on, so the layer is there but nothing shows — enlarge the frame or untick Clip content.
3. If Update SVG appears to do nothing, look at what is selected. The plugin needs the chart frame itself, not a text or vector layer inside it — selecting a child gives you Selected node is not a Figma Chart.
4. If a corner drag will not squash the chart, that is deliberate — every inserted chart has its proportions constrained, so it can only scale. Release the lock in Figma's right-hand panel, or set an exact Width and Height under Appearance in the Configuration tab and press Update SVG.
5. If a chart really did go missing, press ⌘Z (Ctrl Z) on the canvas. An update is an ordinary Figma edit, so Figma's own undo brings the previous chart back.
